How To Read These Values

  • Food value is how much hunger an item restores when eaten; drink value is how much thirst it restores. Some items restore both, which makes them efficient trip food because one inventory slot covers two needs.
  • Early on, foraged berries and rainwater cover hunger and thirst cheaply. Once cooking is unlocked, prepared dishes restore far more per item, so they are worth carrying on long building sessions and airship trips.
  • When you are planning a long exploration run, sort by the combined food-plus-drink total and pack the highest-value items you can cook so you spend fewer inventory slots on survival.
  • High-value cooked dishes are the payoff of the farming and animal loops: crops and animal products become ingredients, and the ingredients become the most efficient food and drink in the game.

Survival Routine

  1. Keep a stack of cheap food (berries) and a water source for early hunger and thirst.
  2. Unlock cooking and convert crops and animal products into higher-value dishes.
  3. Before a long trip, carry a few of the highest combined-value items so survival does not interrupt the run.
