Crafting, Machines, and Materials

Solarpunk crafting guide for materials, workstations, furnace, recycler, energy furnace, cooking, machine unlocks, and recipe planning.

A good crafting base is a short loop: resources into storage, storage into stations, stations into upgrades, obsolete items into recycler, and food into trip prep.

Core Material Flow

MaterialUse
LogBasic wood resource used for early crafting, burning, structures, and machines.
StickEarly quick-craft material and tutorial step; make it before crafting the hoe.
StoneBasic mined material; mine stones with the pickaxe and use it in early tools and stations.
LeafPlant material gathered while clearing greenery; keep some with wood and saplings for early crafting loops.
Wood WasteBurnable wood byproduct; the tips say most wooden items can be burned.
ClayRaw material for brick-related crafting and building progression.
BrickBuilding material unlocked for brick structures after the brick research path.
GlassCrafted in the furnace and used for glass building pieces.
Scrap MetalMetal resource for early machine and utility crafting.
Copper OreOre that smelts into copper for electrical crafting.
CopperProcessed metal used for energy and machine progression.
Iron OreOre that smelts into iron.
IronProcessed metal used for upgraded tools, rods, and machines.
Cobalt OreAdvanced ore for later metal progression.
CobaltAdvanced processed metal for later tools, machines, or upgrades.
SiliconElectrical material used around solar and electronics progression.
DiamondAdvanced material tied to diamond tools and the diamond achievement.
Quartz OreOre resource tied to later material gathering and water-resource fishing.
ClothBasic crafted textile used in beds, docks, furniture, signs, animal tags, and many decoration recipes.
Candle PlateSmall wax-and-stone craft part used in candle decoration recipes.
Cotton WaxWax-and-cloth craft part unlocked through the wax briquette path.
Circuit BoardElectrical crafting part used by foresters, detectors, sky turbines, and later powered devices.
Electrical ComponentKey electrical part used for power and machine unlocks.
Lost CargoLost cargo from merchant bots; keep it with key-item and exploration storage.

Machine Priority

MachineWhy It Matters
Crafting TableFirst real crafting station; one of the early quest steps asks you to craft and place it.
Advanced Crafting TableLater crafting station for advanced recipes.
Research TableUsed to research and unlock new crafting recipes.
CampfireEarly fire source for basic survival and cooking-adjacent setup.
FurnaceCrafts glass and other useful resources.
Energy FurnaceA furnace that runs on energy.
Rain CollectorCollects clean rainwater for drinking.
WellProvides water for the water can; well water is dirty and cannot be drunk directly.
RecyclerDecomposes items back into crafting parts.
UncrafterReverse-crafting style machine listed in recipes.
ForesterAutomatically produces wood.
Transport DroneTransports resources, including routes between islands; after naming it, select it from drills to choose pickup and base delivery.
Magnetic FisherRetrieves resources from water and sometimes pulls non-magnetic items too.
SprinklerAutomatically pumps water from the ground and waters surrounding fields.
BatteryAutomatically stores excess electricity and releases it when needed; each battery has limited energy intake and output.
GeneratorEnergy source for powered bases.
Solar PanelGenerates energy when exposed to the sun.
WindmillProduces energy based on current wind strength.
Sky TurbineLarge turbine that produces a lot of energy.
Cable Connector SmallCable connector used to link energy networks.
Daytime SensorEnergy sensor used for time-based switching.
Rain SensorEnergy sensor used for weather-based switching.
Weather StationWeather and switching device unlocked with the weather station research path.
Logic BlockEnergy logic device used with sensors to open or close connections.
IncubatorPowered animal progression station unlocked after the base has energy and animal systems moving.
Network DisplayOverview device for power networks.
Wireless ConnectorWireless connector used in powered base layouts.
Wireless SprinklerSprinkler variant tied to wireless power.

Recipe Planning

  • Some recipes have alternative versions in the crafting table.
  • Furnace work matters because glass and other useful resources are made there.
  • Cooking unlocks better meals once basic food is stable.
  • Recycler is valuable when obsolete items and storage clutter become a problem.
  • See Crafting Recipes for the verified recipe-name list.
