Energy and Logic
Solarpunk energy guide explaining solar panels, windmills, batteries, cable connectors, network display, sensors, logic blocks, and sprinklers.
Treat energy like plumbing. Generators create power, connectors carry it, batteries buffer it, devices spend it, and sensors or logic blocks decide when some devices should run.
Core Parts
| Part | Use |
|---|---|
| Furnace | Crafts glass and other useful resources. |
| Energy Furnace | A furnace that runs on energy. |
| Sprinkler | Automatically pumps water from the ground and waters surrounding fields. |
| Battery | Automatically stores excess electricity and releases it when needed; each battery has limited energy intake and output. |
| Generator | Energy source for powered bases. |
| Solar Panel | Generates energy when exposed to the sun. |
| Windmill | Produces energy based on current wind strength. |
| Sky Turbine | Large turbine that produces a lot of energy. |
| Cable Connector Small | Cable connector used to link energy networks. |
| Daytime Sensor | Energy sensor used for time-based switching. |
| Rain Sensor | Energy sensor used for weather-based switching. |
| Logic Block | Energy logic device used with sensors to open or close connections. |
| Network Display | Overview device for power networks. |
| Wireless Connector | Wireless connector used in powered base layouts. |
| Wireless Sprinkler | Sprinkler variant tied to wireless power. |
Practical Wiring
- Start with a simple source-to-device line using connectors.
- Add a battery once the first machines matter enough that outages are painful.
- Add network display after the network becomes hard to reason about.
- Use a day or rain sensor in the middle of a circuit when the device should respond to time or weather.
- Use logic blocks for conditional devices like lamps and sprinklers.
Common Mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Expanding powered devices before storage | Add batteries first. |
| Using display as if it powers the network | It is for overview; the network still works without it. |
| Automating sprinklers before fields are large | Manual watering is fine until it delays other work. |
| Ignoring wind and sunlight conditions | Mix generation and storage before relying on one source. |
