Airship Controls and Docking
Solarpunk airship controls guide for takeoff, docking, altitude, visibility, storm flight, home-island return, repair kits, and trip planning.
A lot of players find the first airship flight disorienting, especially at night or in rain. Treat flight as a planned route: leave with a target, keep a return marker in mind, and dock before weather or inventory turns a useful trip into a rescue.
Before Takeoff
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Trip target | Choose one target from resources, loot chests, plants, or airship upgrades. |
| Food and drink | Trip food prevents hunger or thirst from turning a flight into a forced return. |
| Repair support | Repair Kit matters if you are still learning collision and storm handling. |
| Return storage | Make an airship return chest near the dock before flying. |
Docking Habits
- Keep the Dock near visible base landmarks and storage.
- Approach slowly; do not combine full speed, bad weather, and last-second descent.
- If rain or night makes orientation bad, circle wider and line up with the dock marker before dropping altitude.
- Upgrade through airship parts when range, safety, or storage is the actual bottleneck.
Common Flight Problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Cannot tell if the ship is climbing or diving | Slow down, level the view, and use shorter altitude corrections until the nose angle is readable. |
| Cannot find home | Fly toward the dock/home marker instead of terrain memory; do not leave home without a return plan. |
| Rain or night makes landing hard | Delay the trip, improve visibility, or return earlier; upgrades are safer than forcing a storm landing. |
| Friend cannot use the trip cleanly | Use co-op roles and assign separate trip targets before takeoff. |
